Free Health Camp Screens 1,200 Villagers in Odisha
Need Foundation's mobile health team screened more than 1,200 villagers over a three-day free health camp in a cluster of villages in Odisha with no hospital within reasonable travelling distance.
Doctors and volunteer nurses ran general check-ups, blood-pressure and blood-sugar screening, and basic eye tests, referring patients who needed further treatment to partner hospitals in the nearest town.
"Many of the people we saw hadn't had a check-up in years, simply because the nearest clinic meant a half-day's travel," said the camp's coordinating physician. "Bringing the camp to them changes what's actually possible."
Essential medicines for common, treatable conditions were dispensed free of cost on the spot, and the team left behind a basic first-aid kit and contact details with the local panchayat for follow-up.
This camp was the twelfth held under our Healthcare Access programme this year, and the team is already scheduling the next stop on its route.
